The New Ford Focus 2011 Breaks The Mould

Since I saw pictures of the new Ford Focus, months ago, I have been planning to write a post about it, but nothing has inspired me to do so until now. If you listen to the majority of car enthusiasts then you will here a lot of people saying that the Ford Focus has always been and will always be a 'boring' vehicle.

This idea stems from a combination of things, mainly the fact that the Ford Focus is a mid-price, reliable vehicle which sells in huge numbers. No doubt if you have ever had a company car or a hire car, then the Ford Focus would have been one of the models on offer to you. It is a car that doesn't seem to excite the top gear team, yet they do have to admit that it is a brilliant car.

My History with the Ford Focus

You may have already worked out my feelings on the Ford Focus, I am slightly biased as the first car I bought myself was a Ford Focus. It was a blue 1999 Ford Focus and I think I bought it for £1500 and it lasted me 2 wonderful years, before I had to sell it to a friend get some extra money to move abroad. It pained me to sell it and it still pains me today that sometimes I have to get lifts with my friend in what used to be my beloved Focus!

Anyway that's enough about my extended mourning period. This post is supposed to be about the
NEW Ford Focus!

My First Sighting

The reason I was inspired to write this post today was because I saw a
new Ford Focus in Essex
today, in my work car park in fact. When I arrived at work there was a brand new, 11 plate, Ford Focus sitting in the car park. All I can say is "I want one!", this car is far from boring, it is a beautiful looking machine, the headlight shape that Ford is using on all their new models really give the car a sleek, aggressive look that previous incarnations lacked. The clean lines running down each side of the Focus give it a low, sporty look and to make a possibly irrelevant point... it looks great in charcoal grey!

I think we are likely to see a lot of these new Ford Focus models on the road throughout the rest of 2011, it will no doubt see the huge sales figures as every one of it's predecessors has, and as I said above, if you are due for a renewal on your company car, you will very likely be given one of these.

Have You Heard about the technology?!

The new Ford Focus is packed with all of Ford's technological trump cards:

- Lane Departure Warning - to let you know when you are veering out of your lane.

- Traffic Sign Recognition - which identifies traffic and speed signs and gives you a nudge to keep you on the right side of the law.

- Active Park Assist - which works out if a parking space is big enough to fit your car in and then parks itself.

- Low Speed Safety System - which identifies if the car in front of you has suddenly stopped in slow traffic and brakes for you.

- Active Grille Shutter - An intelligent system that adjust the angle of the Grille Shutters to provide optimum cooling and aerodynamics, to increase fuel economy.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily think all of this technology is amazingly useful.

From my experience driving my brother's Seat Leon Ecomotive, I can tell you that stop/start technology is one of the most annoying things in the world. When you drive a car that makes hardly any noise it is hard to tell if the engine has shut off or not and you end up holding up traffic and getting all sorts of lights coming on telling you that you have broken the engine. I think that a car braking for me or parking for me would really get on my nerves...but as long as these things can be switched off then I guess they won't be too much of an annoyance.
